Lots of action on day 3 of the 505 European Championship

After the relatively calm first two days with light to medium and very shifty wind, the third day greeted the sailors with lots of wind and clear blue sky. The wind increased to more than 20kn in the second race with the typical steep waves on the Ijsselmeer. This was not only challenging for the crews, but also for the material. At least four masts broke with a few more bend and a lot more repairs to be done before the last race tomorrow. Only 44 of the 90 boats finished the last race of the day.

Day two saw a shuffle at the top with the Bojsen-Moeller brothers extending their lead on day three. The reigning European Champions Schomäker/Jess, who jumped into second yesterday, also consolidated their place in the standing even though they were caught by Pinnell/Shelton and a few others just before the finish in the last race of the day to give away the race win. Bogacki/Dehne are sitting in third, now followed by Pinnell/Shelton and the French Boite/Grossmann.

One final race is planned for tomorrow. With their comfortable lead, victory seems all but certain for the Bojsen-Moeller brothers, but in the Top10 many place changes are still possible with the forecast calling for a strong breeze again.
