With the 9th race of the series the European Championship 2013 concluded on Sunday. Jörgen and Jacob Bojsen-Møller defended their lead on the final day and sailed to easy victory with a commanding lead over their rivals. Bogacki/Dehne took 2nd place on equal points after a strong comeback in the final race. The previous European Champions Schomäker/Jess finished 3rd overall following an unusual bad last race, which resulted in a discard.

Like the day before, the wind was strong on Sunday. Not everyone was able to start anymore due to the damages caused on Saturday but the rest were fighting to better their standings. The Top Four were keen to defend their position and started in each other’s vicinity. Bogacki/Dehne missed the pathfinder by more than 50m and Schomäker/Jess were so confident to finish second overall after they saw their opponents buried far behind, that they stopped covering them. This turned out to be a mistake. Bogacki/Dehne fought their way through the fleet and rounded the top mark already ahead of the previous European Champions. But defeat was not certain until the last upwind when Bogacki/Dehne overtook another three boats to finished fifth in the race and claim second of the series.

Jan-Philipp Hofmann and Felix Brockerhoff, who only recently started sailing 505 and raced on the charter boat of the German Class Association, finished an impressive 8th in the Championship and secured the win in the Under25 category. Hopefully they will continue to sail 505 and form a new generation of sailors in the class. Nicola Birkner and Angela Stenger, even though they were not able to sail the last race due to a broken mast, finished best All-Female team.
